No-drill silver diamine fluoride (SDF) for kids in Sandy, UT that gently stops small cavities and gives little ones more time.

Not every cavity needs a drill right away. When cavities are small and we need a little more time before other treatment, silver diamine fluoride can help. At Brave Kids Dental Co., we use silver diamine fluoride (SDF) for kids in Sandy, UT as a safe, gentle and non-invasive way to stop decay from progressing.
SDF is a liquid medication that we paint onto a cavity. It works to stop the decay from growing, with no needles, no numbing and no drilling. It's quick, simple and easy for most children.
We want you to know exactly what to expect. A visible effect of SDF is staining: the medication turns the cavity black. While the treated area can look concerning, it's actually a good thing. It means the cavity has stopped, and we have successfully arrested the decay.
Only the decayed area turns dark, not the healthy parts of the tooth. Dr. Vy will show you exactly where SDF will be placed, so there are no surprises.
Sometimes SDF is all a tooth needs. Other times, it's a gentle bridge until your child is ready for a tooth-colored filling or crown. Dr. Vy will explain the plan for each tooth, and we'll keep checking it at your child's regular exams.
SDF works best alongside good habits at home, regular cleanings and fluoride. Together, they help prevent new cavities while SDF handles the ones already there.
If your child notices the dark spot, you can make it part of their bravery story: "That spot means your tooth is all fixed up and the sugar bugs are gone." Most kids are happy to hear it.
At Brave Kids, we choose the gentlest effective option for each child. SDF lets us care for small cavities without stress, especially for kids who need more time.
Dr. Vy Tran has spent over 20 years combined in medicine and dentistry. She started as a respiratory therapist at 19, caring for children in the ER, NICU, PICU and surgery, then earned her DMD and a master's in Oral Biology at the University of Toledo, trained at the University of Utah and specialized in pediatric dentistry.
She also completed a fellowship at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, NY, with additional training in caring for children with special needs. She often uses SDF for sensitive and special needs patients who need a little more time before other treatment.
She's a mom herself, so she knows the worry from the parent's side of the chair, and she built Brave Kids around one goal: making the dentist the easiest part of your kid's day.
