Compassionate dental care for children with special needs in Sandy, UT, with no pressure, no judgment and no rush.

Finding the right dentist for a child with special needs can feel overwhelming. Maybe a past visit didn't go well, or you're worried about the lights, the sounds or being rushed. At Brave Kids Dental Co., children with special needs are at the center of our care. As a special needs dentist in Sandy, UT, we meet every child exactly where they are, with no pressure, no judgment and no rush.
Every child is welcome, and no diagnosis is required.
At Brave Kids Dental Co., we understand that every child's needs are different.
Dr. Vy completed a fellowship at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, NY, gaining additional training in caring for patients with special needs. We bring that experience to a patient, individualized approach, working closely with families and adapting care to each child's comfort, communication and sensory needs.
We created a sensory-friendly pediatric dental space, designed with calm and comfort in mind. Our practice was thoughtfully designed to minimize sensory triggers and help regulate your child's nervous system, so they can feel at ease. Soft lighting, rounded spaces and a cozy nook for quieter moments help, along with ceiling TVs, noise-reducing headphones and weighted lap pads.
Our Montessori-inspired approach introduces tools in simple, hands-on ways, explains what to expect and offers choices to build confidence. For children with special needs, we adapt it to their communication, sensory preferences and abilities, with patience and support. Learn more about our sensory-friendly dentistry.
For small cavities, silver diamine fluoride can stop decay without drilling, which is especially helpful for children who need more time. When more care is needed, laughing gas, IV sedation or general anesthesia can help create a peaceful, trauma-free experience.
You're not alone. Many parents come to us feeling unsure or worried after a difficult past dental experience. We meet families with patience, understanding and no judgment. We'll move at your child's pace, and it's an honor to walk this path with you.
Before your first visit, tell us anything that helps: triggers to avoid, what calms your child, how they communicate best and what has or hasn't worked before. Bring a comfort item, and consider starting with a simple meet-and-play visit.
Brave Kids was built with children with special needs in mind, from the design of our rooms to the way we talk with families. Here's what you can expect from us:
Dr. Vy Tran has spent over 20 years combined in medicine and dentistry. She started as a respiratory therapist at 19, caring for children in the ER, NICU, PICU and surgery, then earned her DMD and a master's in Oral Biology at the University of Toledo, trained at the University of Utah and specialized in pediatric dentistry.
She also completed a fellowship at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, NY, with additional training in caring for children with special needs. She brings that experience to every visit, adapting care to each child's comfort, communication and sensory needs.
She's a mom herself, so she knows the worry from the parent's side of the chair, and she built Brave Kids around one goal: making the dentist the easiest part of your kid's day.
We're on State Street at Opequon Road in Sandy, with plenty of parking right next to the building, so arriving and leaving is easy and calm. UTA bus stops are just outside, and families come to us from Sandy, Draper, Midvale and South Jordan.

No. Every child is welcome here, and no diagnosis is required.
We begin with a calm consultation to get to know your child. Together we review their medical history, talk about sensory sensitivities or triggers, and answer all your questions. This visit is about building trust.
Desensitization visits gently introduce your child to our office over time, helping them feel familiar and reduce anxiety before treatment.
We go at your child's pace with no pressure, no judgment and no rush. Our Montessori-inspired approach is adapted to your child's communication, sensory preferences and abilities, and our sensory-friendly rooms have ceiling TVs, noise-reducing headphones and weighted lap pads.
For children who need extra support, we offer safe and effective sedation options, including general anesthesia, to create a peaceful, trauma-free experience.
