A dental home made for kids

Choosing a dentist for your child is a big decision. You want someone who knows teeth, of course, but also someone who knows children, and who will care for yours the way you would. At Brave Kids Dental Co., we're a pediatric dentist in Sandy, UT dedicated only to babies, kids and teens, from their very first tooth through age 18.

We know dental visits can feel overwhelming, for little ones and for parents too. That's why we built a calm, sensory-friendly space where children feel they belong and parents feel supported and heard. No scary talk, no rushing, just a team that meets every child with empathy, patience and kindness.

What is pediatric dentistry?

Pediatric dentistry is dental care focused only on children. A pediatric dentist has extra training in how children's teeth grow, how to prevent problems early, and how to make visits comfortable for kids of every age and personality.

That matters because children aren't small adults. Their teeth, their mouths and their feelings about the dentist are all still developing, and the right start can shape how they feel about dental care for life.

Care for every stage

We care for your child at every stage, so your family can grow up with us:

Our services

From prevention to treatment, everything happens in one calm, familiar place:

What to expect at a visit

  1. A warm welcome. We let your child walk in and explore our space as if it's their home, with sea turtles on the floor to guide the way.
  2. Getting to know your child. We talk with you about your child's health, comfort level and anything that helps them feel calm.
  3. A gentle, explained exam. Dr. Vy introduces each tool in a simple, hands-on way, explains what she's doing and offers choices along the way.
  4. A plan you decide on together. We share what we see in plain words, answer every question and make a plan with you, with full transparency.

Why kids feel at ease here

Every inch of our office was designed around one question: how does this feel to a kid walking in for the first time? The ceiling curves like a gentle wave, with soft lighting instead of harsh overheads. Warm wood, calm blues and rounded seating replace sharp corners, and there's a cozy nook for kids who need a quieter moment.

In our treatment rooms, children can watch TVs on the ceiling, soften sounds with noise-reducing headphones and settle in under a weighted lap pad. We even chose a thin, flexible X-ray system that's much more comfortable for small mouths than bulky sensors.

Why early visits matter

  • You'll feel confident. We'll give you simple tools and tips for every milestone at home.
  • Healthy habits start early. Positive visits build routines and a relationship with the dentist that last.
  • Small problems stay small. We catch concerns early and make a plan together before they grow.

A tip for parents

Talk about the dentist in a cheerful, casual way, and try to skip words like "shot" or "hurt." Playing dentist at home with a toothbrush and a favorite stuffed animal can make the real visit feel familiar. Bring a comfort item, and let us take it from there.

Not sure where to start? A first visit is the perfect first step, and we can't wait to meet your little one.

Meet Dr. Vy

Dr. Vy Tran has spent over 20 years combined in medicine and dentistry. She started as a respiratory therapist at 19, caring for children in the ER, NICU, PICU and surgery, then earned her DMD and a master's in Oral Biology at the University of Toledo, trained at the University of Utah and specialized in pediatric dentistry.

She also completed a fellowship at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, NY, with additional training in caring for children with special needs. Whether your child is visiting for the first time or needs a little extra support, she adapts every visit to their comfort, communication and sensory needs.

She's a mom herself, so she knows the worry from the parent's side of the chair, and she built Brave Kids around one goal: making the dentist the easiest part of your kid's day.

Frequently Asked Question

At what age should my child first see a pediatric dentist?

By their first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth appearing. That's what the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends, and it's never too early to start. A first visit is short and gentle, usually with your little one sitting right on your lap, and it gives you simple tips for the years ahead. Learn more about our infant dentistry.

What's the difference between a pediatric dentist and a regular dentist?

A pediatric dentist has extra training focused only on children, from babies to teens. Dr. Vy specialized in pediatric dentistry after her dental degree and completed a fellowship with additional training in caring for children with special needs. Everything at Brave Kids, from our words to our tools to our sensory-friendly rooms, is designed for kids and the parents who love them.

What ages do you see at Brave Kids?

We see children from their very first tooth through age 18, teens included. That means your family can grow up with us, with the same familiar faces from first visit to high school.

My child is scared of the dentist. How do you help?

You're not alone, and neither is your child. We go at your child's pace, with no scary talk, no rushing and no judgment. Our Montessori-inspired approach introduces tools in simple, hands-on ways, explains what to expect and offers choices, while ceiling TVs, noise-reducing headphones and weighted lap pads help kids relax. Learn more about our sensory-friendly dentistry, and for kids who need extra support, our sedation options.

How involved can I be in my child's care?

As involved as you'd like. At Brave Kids, parents are part of the team: you know your child best, so we listen first, explain every step in plain words and make decisions together with you. We'll also share easy tips for brushing and healthy habits at home.

Do you see children with special needs?

Yes, and every child is welcome, with no diagnosis required. Dr. Vy completed a fellowship at the Rose F. Kennedy Center in the Bronx, NY, with additional training in caring for patients with special needs. We adapt every visit to your child's comfort, communication and sensory needs. Read more about our special needs dentistry and desensitization visits.

How often should my child see the dentist?

Every 6 months for most children. Kids who are more prone to cavities may benefit from more frequent visits to give their teeth extra support. Each visit usually includes a dental exam and a dental cleaning, so small concerns are caught early.
